Privacy Policy

This policy explains what personal information genx.rocks (the "Site") collects, why, who else handles it, and what you can do about it. The Site is operated by YNG Ads, Tel Aviv, Israel ("we," "us"). If something here is unclear, write to info@genx.rocks.

1. The short version

  • You can read the Site without giving us any personal information. We do not run advertising trackers and we do not set cookies on ordinary visits.
  • If you sign up as a member, we keep your email address so we can let you in and, if we start sending them, send you newsletters.
  • A few outside services (hosting, a security and delivery network, a font provider, a code delivery network) necessarily see your IP address when your browser loads the Site. They are listed in Section 4.
  • You can ask us to show, correct, or delete what we hold about you at any time.

2. What we collect

Ordinary visits. When you load a page, your browser sends your IP address, browser and device type, the page you asked for, and the page you came from. Our hosting and delivery providers process this to deliver the page and keep the Site secure, and their server logs may keep it for a short time.

Site statistics. The Site uses the built-in analytics of Ghost, the publishing software we run. It counts page views and gives us basic information such as which pages are read, where visitors came from, and the general type of device and country. It works without cookies and does not follow you to other sites. We do not use Google Analytics or advertising pixels.

Membership. If you sign up, we collect the email address you enter (and a name, if you give one). It is stored in the Site's member database. Signing up or signing in may trigger an email, such as a confirmation or sign-in link, sent on our behalf by an email service provider. We do not currently send newsletters. If we begin, every issue will include an unsubscribe link, and we will use your address only for the Site.

When you write to us. If you email us, we keep the message and your address so we can reply, and for as long as we need to deal with what you raised.

What we do not collect. We do not ask for payment details, we do not run comments, and we do not knowingly collect sensitive personal information. If paid memberships or comments are added later, we will update this policy before they start.

3. Cookies and similar technologies

We do not set cookies for people who are simply reading the Site. If you sign in as a member, the Site sets the cookies it needs to keep you signed in; they are removed when you sign out or they expire. Our delivery provider (Cloudflare) may use security-related technology to tell real visitors from automated traffic. We do not use cookies for advertising or to build profiles about you.

4. Who else handles your data

We use the following services to run the Site. Each processes the data described only to provide its service to us or to you.

  • Hosting: the Site and its member database run on a server managed through PikaPods, a hosting provider.
  • Cloudflare: sits in front of the Site to speed up delivery and block abusive traffic. It sees the IP address and request details of every visitor.
  • Google Fonts: the Site's typefaces load from Google's servers (fonts.googleapis.com and fonts.gstatic.com), so your browser sends your IP address and browser details to Google when a page loads.
  • jsDelivr: some of the Site's scripts (member sign-up and search) load from the jsDelivr content delivery network (cdn.jsdelivr.net), which sees your IP address when they load.
  • Email delivery: an email service provider sends sign-in and, in future, newsletter emails for us.

Pages on the Site may link to other websites (for example marketplaces, archives, and video or music services). Those sites have their own privacy practices, and this policy does not cover them. If we add affiliate links, following one may let the destination site set its own cookies.

We do not sell your personal information and we do not share it for advertising.

5. Why we use it, and on what basis

We use the information above to deliver the Site, keep it secure, understand which writing people read, and, if you sign up, to give you access and contact you as you asked. Where the law requires a legal basis, we rely on our legitimate interest in running and securing a small publication, and on your consent when you sign up for membership or email. You can withdraw consent at any time by unsubscribing or asking us to delete your record.

6. Where your data goes

The providers above operate data centers in several countries, including outside Israel and outside the European Economic Area. By using the Site you understand that your information may be processed in those places. We choose providers that publish their own privacy and security terms.

7. How long we keep it

Member records stay until you unsubscribe or ask us to delete them. Emails you send us are kept for as long as needed to deal with them. Server logs held by our hosting and delivery providers are kept for the periods those providers set, which are short.

8. Your rights

Depending on where you live (for example under the EU and UK GDPR, Israel's Privacy Protection Law, or California law), you may have the right to see the personal information we hold about you, have it corrected or deleted, object to or limit some uses, and receive a copy in a portable form. Email info@genx.rocks and we will respond within a reasonable time, normally within 30 days. You may also complain to your local data protection authority; in Israel that is the Privacy Protection Authority.

9. Children

The Site is written for adults and is not directed at anyone under 16. We do not knowingly collect information from children. If you believe a child has given us their email address, write to us and we will delete it.

10. Security

We use reasonable measures to protect the Site and its member records, including a secure connection (HTTPS) for all pages. No method of storing or sending data over the internet is completely secure, so we cannot promise absolute security.

11. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy. The "Last updated" date above shows the current version, and we will note material changes on the Site. Continued use of the Site after a change means you accept it.
